The Sunset Seniors of Holetown Chinese Food Social

We have a definite IN with the snowbirds here through Monica and Andy. After coming here to Holetown last winter and this one, they have made friends. Here's one way that affected our vacation.

As if a day off beach, pool, snorkeling, and grocery shopping wasn't enough for one day, last night we had tickets to the Sunset Seniors of Holetown Chinese Food Social.

The four of us piled into a van along with Heather, Vonnie, Fred, Anne?, and Hal, who drive us to the East Moon Chinese Restaurant.

This is Hal.

We sat with Charmain (yes, without an e), Maureen, and Mary. We had the most conversation with Charmain, who was from Trinidad, but was also from New Zealand, Montreal, and now Coburg.

Our table topics immediately went to politics and women's equality. That was a great beginning to an evening. The conversation was lively and I learned a lot; Charmain is a history buff and had some really interesting perspectives. Smart girl. Ruth and I really connected with this wonderful human.

Charmain is standing on the left and Maureen on the right.

We asked her, "Of all the places you've visited and lived in, what's the best?" Almost immediately she responded, "New Zealand."

A high school musical experienced niece of the hostess sang a few karaoke songs (not terrible), followed by some homeless dude that Hal and his wife Anne have taken in (pretty good singer), and a girl from the other side of the island who sang for donations was the main act.

For some reason I really belted out the Hues Corporation's 1970s hit, Rock the Boat. I blame the many hours of my youth spent singing along with K-Tel hot hits LPs in my room.

We ate Chinese food, drank the local Deputy and Banks beers and some wine, danced, and along with the crowd we sang backup for a few songs.

During the walk back to the house, we stopped and enjoyed listening to the congregation of the Hometown Methodist Church singing hymns.

As I write this on Tuesday morning on the back deck, the doves and a pair are having a battle of Who Can Be Loudest.

Here's one of my many visitors.

And that is the jungle-yard the back deck offers as a view.

It honestly doesn't feel like a prison.
