2:40am wake up time

Rik and were invited to spend a week in Barbados with friends. Count me in!

I have been counting down the hours to freedom all week. But, unfortunately, when work was finally done on Friday I was so over-tired I wasn’t in the mood for any type of celebrating. It was a very anti-climactic start to a week of vacation.

Rik spent the evening boiling down sap collected from our silver maple tree. We stayed up to let it finish and started watching TV.  At around 10:20pm I could smell something sweet…

Out in the kitchen, the sap had boiled dry and clouds of thick, grey smoke were hovering around the ceiling of the kitchen.  I went to bed to save myself and avoid any carnage that may ensue from Rik’s disappointment.  Not that it helped any.  Despite best efforts, as per usual, I fell asleep around 1am.  So I’m operating on 1.5 hours of sleep and am cranky af.

But I’ll cheer up eventually. Feeling the 30-degree increase in temperature later today is sure to help with that!

…I had a coffee and feel better.  Up up and away!
